+c) it's revealing of a specific kind of self-doubt that tells the holder they are not deserving of ~good things/admiration/etc~ if it turns out they share experiences with ppl outside the group they align themselves to. so much interpersonal +intellectual parsimony= born of need to be above others

This is something I love about certain parts of the extreme music world. You find interesting overlaps in life histories that aren’t obviously tied to music; and often what you learn is that people from different places, with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, have faced similar challenges.
