thinking about how incensed (some) ppl get when confronted with the idea that ppl from a different social/professional status can still share commonality with them
how a) it's misconception to imagine life experience as intrinsically non-overlapping
+b) it's rooted in fealty to a strict hegemony
+c) it's revealing of a specific kind of self-doubt that tells the holder they are not deserving of ~good things/admiration/etc~ if it turns out they share experiences with ppl outside the group they align themselves to.
so much interpersonal +intellectual parsimony= born of need to be above others
This is something I love about certain parts of the extreme music world. You find interesting overlaps in life histories that arenāt obviously tied to music; and often what you learn is that people from different places, with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, have faced similar challenges.
