A note by Lorraine Daston: Why is there no epistemology of the humanities whereas there's so much philosophical research on the epistemology of the sciences? Could the emerging history of the humanities be a stimulus? I'd have the same questions for sociology...

I tend to think of methods papers as analogous to that. I just wish stuff on mixed-methods stuff was more developed.

I wrote in another place that I disagree with her assessment. I think there is some work being done on the "epistemology of humanities," but maybe just not in the form she envisions. In history, we have a small but relatively long-lived community.
