Slowly removing lawn, replacing with native plants. My one, small step for wildlife, climate, anxiety. Reading, learning to play the ukelele, front porch birding and nature observing. Trying to stay informed but not stressed out.

Yes, really cool. We’ll miss Maisie Dobbs.

I do more and more to minimize my carbon footprint and hope that neighbors are influenced by what I do/don’t do. But it’s hard not to despair. There are too many things to despair about these days. I appreciate your newsletter.

“Post-planting neglect.” We certainly have that issue in my Montgomery Co., MD, suburban neighborhood. All of the 35-year old white oaks are half dead. It’s dangerous and getting sunnier and hotter.

The smell of the tulip poplar flowers always takes me back to childhood in the 1950s. Our neighbor had an enormous one in their backyard.

Right, there’ll be no one left to fight it.

I just checked my native plant garden in MD and saw a few lightning bugs. Sadly, there is a lot of light pollution and many of my neighbors use chemicals on their lawns and shrubs. Thanks for your post and photo.

There’s something about Cedar Waxwings that doesn’t even look real. Beautiful!
