I think my biggest ask from Microsoft at this point is that they stop trying to take my files for safekeeping like medieval nobility took wards from other families "for their protection" wink wink.

But yeah the logic of the ups and downs of the whole movie is pretty much the logic for the booking of a classic pro-wrestling feud.

Babyface gets beat down 2 to 1 so next week he reveals he's bringing in a shocking surprise partner to even the odds (in the old days a great way to bring in a wrestler from another territory or one who has been gone for some time).

I mean, I don't know if *they've* ever said that, but watching it it was all I could see. Like, when the actual wrestler gets involved to help Jesus it's after Jesus gets his butt handed to him by overwhelming odds. Classic old school wrestling booking.

Nancy freaking Pelosi of all people entertaining the question of whether or not someone should maybe step aside and give the reigns to someone else is ridiculous high-comedy.

No joke, anyone who thinks what the world really needs is more consolidation among companies (which is incredible not business friendly) is declaring themselves an existential threat to the rest of humanity. At least he was honest about the not caring part.

My favorite part is that all the plot beats are arranged as if the entire thing were a wrestling feud. I mean sometimes that's explicit, obviously, but it absolutely is MMA Jesus vs lesbian-hunting vampires as done by the logic of professional wrestling and I loved it.

To be fair, diving in Giallo films a couple years ago taught me that I am definitely *not* ok with things that would have a 30 minute torture scene. Like, there are giallo movies I enjoyed a lot and there are giallo movies that made me deeply regretful of having seen them.

Depending on which aspect of the tweet you want to lean into more I'd say mine is Ganja & Hess or Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (which, with all due respect to JCVH, which I really do like, is in no way to compare it to Ganja & Hess, which would be pretty insulting to the later.)

Absolutely. And its beyond silly that they would use their silly title and the concept of a conference to mash together for their meetings. I love the idea of these lords of evil approaching naming things like smurfs do.

Can’t help but wonder how many people have tried to brush it aside like “no no, people just talked differently in those days, it wasn’t passionate like it sounds to us” and “Queequeg and Ishmael were just friends”.

Admittedly I’m Canadian and we don’t exactly worship and study American authors the same way Americans do, but I assume these points don’t come up in classrooms all that often.

Ok, so in the last few weeks I’ve learned, independently, that Bram Stoker wrote passionate letters to Walt Whitman & that Herman Melville wrote passionate letters to Nathaniel Hawthorne and with how queer Moby Dick is 60 pages or so in I am amused that this stuff gets relegated to niche knowledge.

My kid is so devoted to TCWs and, slightly lesser but still Rebels that he doesn't want to watch Ahsoka fore fear of it missing the mark (for him). Having watched TCWs I can't blame him the love for it. That thing was pretty great.

Fair...but, a "Moffrence" is the greatest thing I've ever heard so I will now defend this fabled 90s EU with blind devotion sight unseen. lol. Seriously, a Moffrence. This brings me untold joy. "Sorry, I'm going to be late for dinner, I've got a Moffrence call later." 😂

And of course aren't even the only "magical" force stuff put into canon by both The Clone Wars and Rebels (which I've only seen bit of buy know a bunch of from my kid).

Amusing then, as you say, that the whiny babies try to claim the mantle of defender of lore and canon when by being offended by something that has been "introduced" not once, but twice, out of canon and in. If only people were more motivated by curiosity over the new-to-them instead of rage.

So I don't know what force witches are in this context specifically yet, as I haven't watched yet, and I don't know the 90s EU, but I do know that the Clone Wars show my kid had me watch in its entirety with him (one of Star Wars' better things actually) is pretty dang big on force witches.

I always enjoyed reading the Vampire the Masquerade material more than wrapping my mind around playing it, in particular, but it's huge success also gifted us all kinds of other RPGs that I did love playing. An absolute 90s icon.

Political Journalists who see their job as being entertainers, crib their style from sports journalism, and act like "far right" and "fascist" are just some team names and not liking them is like not liking the Lakers or the Patriots are a pox upon modern society worse than even AI tech bros.

ugh, I hate math courses that require knowing equations by heart instead of understanding the equations and how to use them. People in the real world don't have to know them all by heart, so why should you have to in the class?

Please note the wildly incorrect polling in France. No matter what the cacophony of pundits keep saying, polls are not predictive, and are never the end of the story. Organizing, volunteering, engaging in conversation, and direct action are effective tools. Let's use them here too.

Like, good education systems have been teaching students for three decades now to not blindly accept unverified facts from the internet and internet searches. The fact bad ones don’t is, has been and will be a problem whether “AI” is a thing or not.

And if the kid at that point is like “No! I should only have to look up thing in this thing and anything it says is always true” then either the kid is an asshole, or they’ve been failed, but not by AI. AI is just exploiting the parents and teachers who previously failed them.

I agree you can’t just tell a kid in this situation “I’m the teacher so you are wrong” and have them buy into it. But you *can* teach them the importance do verifying facts. You can demonstrate the fact that the program could make mistakes. Etc.

This is grim, and I hate this “AI” crap, but I also am having a hard time with the presentation of this teacher that this kid was faultless here or that there was nothing that could he done to show them the problem. Those both can’t be true at the same time.

It would still be foolish and wrong to immediately jump to "oh he'd never" even without what he has admitted to, but how the hell anyone hear what he admitted to and then be like "definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt, clearly respects boundaries."

Feels like it's the same kind of really immature definition of "sex" that people too often seem to grasp for that reminds me a lot way back when in Clinton's attempt to tap dance away from the truth.

The most important thing to remember whenever a famous and popular person gets revealed to have been terrible is that you can now jump on social media and tell everyone how much better, smarter and more pure you are than their fans cause you never liked them anyway and didn’t know who they were.

The fact Taraji P. Henson seems to have really effected an increase in knowledge of and momentum against the evil Project 2025 by using the platform she had is why it’s hard not to look askance at people in similar positions who don’t. See also David Tenant. More powerful people like them please.

Don't let his lies scare you out of sharing the details of Project 2025 with everyone you know — especially those who are on the fence about their vote this year.

There's good reason to believe knowing about Project 2025 focuses people's minds on the stakes.

I’ll also note that we have potentially a fair number of thunderstorms every year, so getting them to be ok with them was as much a function of saving my sanity as it was their grief and sanity. Cause hours sometimes of dog barking at a thunderstorm was excruciating for all involved.
