Ages ago I read a survey in an economics journal where they asked seventy three economists across the political spectrum whether carbon taxes were an appropriate means to combat carbon pollution. Seventy two said yes. One said no, but sent a followup comment that they had misread the question.

Even with military support for Israel he's at least trying. Since the attack on the kitchen convoy he's been restricting the types of arms being supplied to ones Israel isn't using in Gaza and has been delaying transfers, some not being scheduled to happen for years.

I read the preview on Amazon, considering getting it for one of my nieces. I decided they're a bit old for it so I bought it for myself instead. I'm old enough to not care I'm too old for it. Lovely book, very entertaining, and I LOVED the design of Grendel!

The one thing that gets me about the Borg is they don't actually seem to incorporate anything into themselves from the people they assimilate. They're still flying around in the same cubes they met the Federation in decades ago.

In Oslo my friends and I were waiting on the sidewalk for another friend who had ducked into a shop. An elderly gentleman approached and I realized we were blocking the sidewalk so I moved us aside and said "Excuse us, sir" as he passed. He blew a raspberry at us.

It's the craphole death spiral. Crappy posters spike, people with a sensitivity to crap leave, so crap makes up a higher percentage of postings. That leads to the people slightly less sensitive to crap leaving and the percentage of crappy interactions just rises and rises.

The "law on the books" you mention was also retroactive. The original statute of limitations of civil liabilities on these specific crimes ran out in the 70's while the expansion of that statute was passed in the 00's.

The property being protected is their assets. Land, housing, money, etc. The reason they have that protection is because the statute of limitations passed and the court ruled that retroactively turning back the limit was unfairly burdensome on that right.

Some of it is political theater, some of it is a negotiating tactic, but more and more it's a party gone mad. Republicans can't sell working with Democrats to their constituents and they don't have enough control over their most lunatic fringe to pass it themselves.
