I still remember when I heard that my then-husband's mother hadn't allowed him to play football as a kid and I was like, 'what an overprotective nut.' And now of course I'm like, she was brilliant and ahead of her time! Didn't let my son play, either.

I feel that way about gymnastics now. Seeing kids sticking landings w/hyperextended knees and arched backs just freaks me out. Friend pulled her talented daughter out after 2nd stress fracture. She was 10.
