the breadth of misinformation is unreal. a woman next to us at dinner said she went to cuba when “trump opened the border” and her date said “best president ever.” obama did that!!! trump reversed it!!!

May we rage when we must & rest when we can. May we seek the peace we so desperately need. May we turn our hands, in all things, to the justice that peace requires. The only liberation is a shared liberation. May we have courage sufficient to build it. Shabbat shalom❤️

I spoke to a friend I knew in high school who told me he "doesn't follow politics." I asked him what he thought about the election. He said, "I hear Biden's a senile wreck." He also said he hadn't heard of SCOTUS granting Trump immunity and has never heard of Project 2025. Media's doing a great job.

This is particularly important to understand because Trumpist authoritarianism is the descendent of Jim Crow far more than say Hitler or Pinochet or Orban, and it's going to look a lot more like 1930s Mississippi than 1930s Berlin.

Remember: Texas is not a red state. Texas is a massively voter-suppressed state, with a lot of people working very hard and very thanklessly to fix that.

Sounds pretty made up, and a quick check of the official White House schedule debunks it quickly.

Remembering now that my father had a fancy camera, but rarely photographed us, his kids! Whereas my mom had a series of cheap cameras and was a terrible photographer, but she managed to chronicle our childhood.

Hardly any. But the best pictures of my childhood came when my dad was dating a really good photographer. For a few months in the mid-70s, I was her muse.

Started watching to escape the debate last week. I'm surprised at how mostly good it is. They did make a few factual errors (referred to Harvey Milk as mayor of SF in one episode) but overall, very nicely done.

Between Ganz's "When the Clock Broke" and this Vice docu-series titled "The Dark Side of the 90s," I'm feeling kind of sad about my early adulthood. A lot of the seeds of our very fucked-up current situation were planted in the 90s.

Trump is trying to get ahead of the reality that he and the heritage foundation are working to destroy America and institute a fascist dictatorship. He is lying and expecting the media to gaslight America for him.

"Even before the debate, the media studiously minimized Trump’s criminal convictions, fascist rantings, verbal diarrhea and his use of language literally out of Adolf Hitler’s playbook. Instead, they decided that the most important story in this race was Biden’s age."

Definitely wild that the NYT political coverage right now is 80% Biden must step down and 20% Please don't vote (even though I do), when there is a big document out there detailing Trump's sexual abuse of underaged girls. www.newsweek.com/donald-trump...

Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

Remember how the "retail theft crime wave" disappeared as soon as companies had to do their annual reports? That's because it's illegal to lie to shareholders.

I hate that newspapers make it so easy to subscribe online but don't let you cancel online. So, I guess I am calling the NYT to cancel tomorrow. Despite my love for the recipes and reading the paper since I was a kid, I have to stop subsidizing their crap. transphobia, antivax, now antivoting!

This is the tradcath weirdo whom the @nytimes.com is publishing to tell you not to vote.

You should not listen to him. Instead, you should shove his ass into a locker and burn the entire campus containing said locker to the ground. (The campus is Hillsdale)

History will recall that the New York Times, that bastion of "the liberal media," on July 4, 2024 chose to give prime space on their op-ed page to a theocratic absolutist who argued that people shouldn't vote, even though he himself has voted in the last 2 elections (but nowhere is that mentioned).

I think @mtsw.bsky.social said, "don't print lies in the newspaper" is an infallible moral heuristic, and he's right, and it is one that the New York Times opinion page manages to fail on an almost-weekly basis.

Imagine for one second if the NYT marshaled its massive influence towards voter registration, towards supporting voting rights groups, towards encouraging people to vote and fighting people who try to stop people from voting. Imagine if the NYT actually championed participatory democracy.

A day later the NYT continues its wall-to-wall coverage on Biden's candidacy. Still waiting for the "Trump should bow out" coverage. On the day we celebrate our independence from a king, and 4 days from when SCOTUS sets up the possibility of a king, this is what our media is focused on.

It's pretty disheartening to see the most influential news org push a narrative that, while important, is by no means the most important story right now. A week after a poor performance, the top 4 stories on the NYT homepage is about Biden's mental facilities. Meanwhile democracy dies in the open.
