When I try it I mostly get failed catches followed by them immediately fleeing why I try again. I assumed it was patched.

I started playing PokΓ©mon Go recently. An underrated perk of living in a dense multifamily area is that my bed sits perfectly in between three PokΓ©stops.

A lot of white progressives really need to think critically about why their instinctive response to a law that amounts to "don't be an a**hole in public" is "but that's racist".

Something that drives me crazy is when cities pass laws against loud vehicles, some "progressives" come out of the woodwork to say that these laws are just a means to target poor people/people of color, as if the people living in these neighborhoods should just have to deal with booming bass at 3 AM

Recently I was working late hours on a project that involved discarding lots of paper. I would watch the custodial staff come into my office at night and empty the recycling and trash into the same bin. Apparently the entire school district (32,000+ students) does this, and nobody bats an eye.

This, 100%. Take a look at EduSky at any given moment and it will be mostly AI propagandists, mostly from people who aren't even teachers, yet somehow are given platforms over actual teachers. This happens within districts all the time.

I'm just getting into the field and I'm already sick of all the consultants and EdTech influencers pushing AI and other gimmicks into our profession. We debase our credibility as experts when we entrust our work to such flawed & experimental tech. Thankfully, my content area mostly gets left alone.

My education hot take of the week is that teachers should be modeling an adamant rejection of generative AI, not an uncritical adoption and dependence on it. We need to show that thinking and creating for ourselves is not only still possible, but truly liberating in the new digital age. #eduSky

This is also part of a broader tendency of bureaucracy to overlook/erase caring and nurturing forms of labor, which are overwhelmingly performed by women. Much of society's mistreatment of teachers makes more sense when you keep in mind that teaching children is traditionally viewed as women's work.

The push for EdTech is predicated on the belief that education can be automated, which implicitly devalues all of the interpersonal work that goes into teaching. Anyone who's actually taught knows that nurturing and fostering relationships is absolutely vital to students' (and teachers') success.

If you look on EduSky at any given moment, you'll find dozens of posts by education consultants and various other tech influencers pushing op-eds about what AI can do for teachers, or the benefits of "eLearning". All of this is presented as completely value neutral. It isn't.

This was an interesting read that's only become more relevant since its publication in 2017. The push to implement technology into our instruction is often touted as a virtue in its own right, regardless of whether or not it's necessary or even beneficial to students' learning.

Microplastics are (finally) gaining mainstream attention, but a lot of the ire is directed at particles like those beads found in acne scrubs or turf fields.
The most harmful microplastic particles look like this, can pass through your lung tissue and into your brain, and mostly come from car tires

- Wider sidewalks with planters
- Buildings (residential and commercial) go right up to the street, parking in the back
- Parking is accessed at fewer points, connected by separate access roads
-Form based code encouraging engaging storefronts instead of stock outlet mall design

Some solutions I would implement if I could wave a magic wand (the road is owned by TxDOT, so these will likely never happen):
- 3 10-ft. car lanes (instead of 7) with lower speed limit and traffic calming
- 2 bus-only lanes with frequent service
- separate, tree lined bike paths on each side

If there is still a steady volume of cyclists despite all of this, then imagine the utilization of a separated, well maintained bike path along a corridor where these issues were addressed.

- The sidewalk frequently cutting out for wide radius driveways into parking lots
- Everything being spread out by excessively large, mostly empty parking lots
- The stroad being lined primarily with car oriented or otherwise blighting businesses (title loans, anyone?)
- Minimal bike parking

Today I saw 4 cyclists on a 1 mile stretch of University Drive (the premier "stroad" of Denton, Tx), despite:
- High heat with minimal shade and lots of paved surfaces nearby.
- Cyclists confined to a narrow, bumpy, and twisty sidewalk.
- The sidewalk being alongside 7 lanes of 45+ mph traffic

Absolutely shameless example of shrinkflation by Vega. Just opened this to find it's only half full. Just sell it in a smaller jar at this point.

Spotted near my apartment. The term "gentrification" loses all meaning when it's applied to benign things like young adults riding bikes or wearing thrifted hats. Me commuting by bike isn't the reason our rent shot up $150 in a year.

I'll never understand why people are drawn to regions with hot weather. I get lightheaded and dizzy just going outside and it's only 89Β°. This is miserable.

I hate to break it to you, but your McDonalds patties don't come from a picturesque free-range family farm with two cows, five chickens, and a cattle dog named Bear. I highly recommend reading up on a company called Tyson.

It's ironic that opponents of cultivated meat make arguments that more accurately describe conventional factory farmed meat. Low nutritional value and quality, monoplization, high costs and limited scalability, harmful additives, unnatural processes, etc.
