I don't agree. The purpose is to activate his base and prepare for future fights, so far as Trump is concerned. He has a far more powerful means to prevent future convictions: the presidency.

This isn't just about Trump, his followers use these threats in defense of anyone in their ideological camp. Trump is merely their avatar right now, a symptom, not a cause, of this kind of politics.
