June in Books - 8 books and 2 audiobooks. A brilliant lineup topped by the audiobook Hine Toa, read by Ngāhuia te Awekotuku herself. Other standouts - the bitchily compelling Erotic Vagrancy and the horrendous scenario of Nuclear War. (Plus My fave thing is Monsters book 2 & half of Butter(

1984 by George Orwell turns 75 tomorrow. I found the best review of it in the Te Awamutu Courier, 21 October 1949. paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/T... "Mr Orbell (sic) has etched with skill and vigour a picture that makes the writer, at least, glad that he is not likely to be alive in 1984."
