I found this gem while weeding the garden. white-lined Sphinx Moth. It was on Wild Four O’clock, though I’m not sure it was feeding there. 🐛

Could be. We have a ton of those in our house. We manage them by putting most of our houseplants outside when we can, and we have one of those blacklight traps that vacuum them up

Terrible picture, I know, but this False Map Turtle (I think) floating on a log caught in a vortex on an offshoot of the Missouri River is a new species for me. 🐢

Regal Fritillaries are listed as a species of concern primarily due to fragmented and vanishing habitat throughout their historical range.

After coming up empty the last two weeks looking for Regal Fritillaries at my primary site, I tried a different site today and it paid off. Not only did I see almost a dozen Regals but one actually landed, and the wind died down enough to get some decent pics. 🦋

I don't see a lot of those around here. Always a treat when I do. Today I'll go out looking for my favorite butterfly, The Regal Fritillary. They are only found in a few locations for just a few weeks a year. Haven't seen one in 2 years.

That moth is found in Europe, and I am in North America. Similar shape, though. Probably in the same family. My best guess is Platytes vobisne. Waiting for confirmation on iNat.
