It really is amazing how music transcends the ravages of Alzheimer’s. Midway through my mom’s fight with it, we were on a drive and I laughed when I saw a license plate. I read it out, “867-5309,” and Mom gasped, then sang it. Earlier that day she’d called me “the nice lady who drives her around.”
