This 100%. But I bet it was Ohtani's agent who realized it, and probably instructed Ohtani/Mizuhara to fabricate the "theft". But can Ohtani really just not press charges, and the whole thing goes away? I assume Mizuhara will face real consequences, and eventually the lie will fall apart...

Update: Looks like I was wrong about this. Current status seems that Mizuhara really stole the $ from Ohtani, without his knowledge.

If he had direct access to Ohtani's bank account, wouldn't be so different from prior financial scams targeting athletes. Sad.
