Theres still ways to prevent it, such as reanimating the body into a zombie then killing the zombie, or cutting the body vertically that way the damage is bigger than a 1-foot radius and mending doesn't work

I think the issue lies with mending. Speak with dead requires a mouth to work, but mending lets you fix the missing head thus making that caveat pointless.

Finding and hiring a dude to cast a 3rd level spell costs about 100 gold in major cities. If a random peasant is murdered yeah probably wouldn't get the Speak with Dead treatment but pretty much any merchant's family would have enough to pay for it

Even putting aside speak with dead cause they might have not seen it, if you've narrowed it down to enough suspects you can cast Commune to literally ask the gods themselves five yes/no questions With smart enough questions you can confirm or deny who the killer is in a group of 16 people

If someone blocks you and you react within 5 seconds you can command grab to not only stop them from blocking it also forces them to follow you and makes you un-muteable for a week
