My Boomer mother ranks actors in terms of their physical attractiveness every time she watches TV. “She’s ugly. Oh, he’s handsome.” To my relief and no doubt to her own she has made an effort to stop in recent years.

I rewatched it recently, for the first time since maybe the 1980s. I tried desperately to see it as satirizing misogyny but it clearly isn’t: the movie wants us to think that these guys are cool, but they’re actually just assholes.

I moved to Texas in 2009 and all the talk was about making UT system competitive with California. That’s all gone now, and yes, state legislature also attacking big cities that are responsible for 70% of Texas economy and all of its population growth.
