The one you should start with is Monstrous Regiment, which is trans as hell.

Got a flash sale notice from Affinity today. Everything half off. Boy howdy, did they pick their moment. If you're tired of Adobe's bullshit, here's your off ramp.

Yeah. The Long Weekend was that Australian revenge of nature flick. No Milland, but he wouldn't have been above doing it if the money was right.

Pretty good mail week. Most of this is pushing to the finish line in my quest to collect *all* of Cary Grant's movies. The extra Jean Harlow movies are a bonus; I bought this set for Suzy, the only film she made with Grant.

Rewatching Ocean's 8, which is admittedly not as good as the the Soderbergh films. But there are all kinds of reasons to watch movies besides directorial virtuosity. Like, for instance, all of Cate Blanchett's outfits.

I've been writing about Cary Grant movies on and off for a while. Today it's In Name Only from 1939, one of his most obscure films.

Because the next one is coming very soon, allow me to tout my piece on Fury Road. It's one of the best things I ever wrote about a movie.
Enjoy.

I bought the trade on Wednesday. Love it, but I was marginally disappointed that it didn't include the two covers by Barry Windsor-Smith from the old Eclipse version. Were there rights issues to overcome with that or did Marvel just demure?
Probably shouldn't complain since I have those books.

My friend, Aaron, invited me on his podcast to talk about The Brood, which is probably my favorite David Cronenberg movie.

It is. So is We're No Angels. It's my brother's favorite Bogart movie, so I got it for his birthday (I snagged one for myself, too). A couple of these are blind buys, so that's fun (Cry Danger, Without a Clue).

Pretty good mail this week. Lots from the late lamented Olive Films here, via a Deep Discount bogo sale. Plus, I guess Bogart is my next project once I finish with Cary Grant.

This has been sitting in my drafts folder for a while. It's on VOD now, so it might be of use. My thoughts on Lisa Frankenstein, such as they are...

Honestly, they should trade down, but the Russell Wilson experiment has driven their front office and their fan base insane.

The Cardinal's shenanigans relies on the Broncos being rational. I assure you, they are not rational. This will be fun to see, though.

Thanks! Most of these films are easy to find. Illegal is available for free on Plex, but you'll have to put up with ads. The rest are easy enough to find in the usual places. Black Tuesday is really worth seeking out on disc though.

Hi all. I've been absent. Mental health and all. Just popping in to say that I've been working on this huge blog article about the graylist films of Edward G. Robinson and I'd love for people to read it. Sorry it's so long. Lots of ground to cover.

Libro.fm sent me an email with an audiobook playlist by trans authors this week, so this is timely. Here it is. The bonus is that Libro is not Amazon and doesn't put DRM on their stuff if the author doesn't want it.

Anyone who thought the continuity of the later X-men movies was convoluted and arcane never read the comics. Those things sometimes change the set of their reality on the monthly.

Also: I remember my very Catholic mother saying about the couple in that piece "They ought to take their children away from them." I never came out to my mother. This is one reason.

I was pretty young. 1979, maybe? 20/20 story on a trans couple aired then. The first trans dude I ever met was my first electrologist in 1990. His name was Zack (I know the last name, too, but he's gone stealth last I heard).

So, yeah. HRT is probably shortening my life by a lot. But the benefit is that I can actually think straight. That wasn't the case before, and another forty years of that would have been miserable.

Also, HRT gave me pancreatitis. It leveled up my blood Triglycerides to a point that they were too high to be measured and landed me in the hospital. I had to give up oral estrogen for injectibles. I miss the pills.

I got the usual physical effects, but I don't cry more easily. I don't laugh more easily. I'm not more "in touch" with my emotions. But I'm also not angry at the world ALL THE TIME anymore. At least, not for no reason. There are plenty of real reasons these days.
