100%!!! I have created a course to teach people to recognize emotions and let them flow out, and one of the big blocks is people think "emotional intelligence" is just controlling your emotions away with breathwork. when I cry while talking about a hard time I'm shushed, whereas imo that's aligned.

I used to feel like this about my skin- because of circumstances I had cystic acne on my cheeks for a bit. and people would be like "oh sweetie, you should try washing your face." like omg. thanks for changing my life with your unsolicited advice.

exactly. I never liked Harry Potter because I wasn't in the demographic it was aimed at when it was at it's peak. I liked other things that are also problematic now though because as a culture we collectively uphold sketchy people all the time.

people are allowed to not want to learn my life's work, VIBEOLOGY, a course to decolonize and re-emotion your brain. However, if you don't want to learn VIBEOLOGY because you don't like it's values but you do want to teach me to be like you, you have to see that I can't.

someone tells you "I like this thing". You can have two conversations 1) where you tell them you don't like that thing, upholding your own ideas about what is good/right, projecting yourself at them. 2) ask them what they like about that thing, where you are growing EMPATHY about another person
