I taught at a 60% Maori Pasifika high school so I get this completely. (Didn’t realise I was Autistic at the time) I did learn how very Western this expectation is.

During high school there was pop sci thing going around that people said if you sustained eye contact for a certain about of time it either meant the person wanted to have sex with you or fight or something that... I just remember thinking, great, more reason to avoid.
