He was referencing the cleanness off the glass, not its contents. Also, I grew up with southern Baptist who kept a secret bourbon bottle in the basement kitchen because they couldn’t drink openly. Their glassware was still impeccable.

Perhaps I took it out of context, still, why did he specify "wine glass" not just glass? I had a great uncle who hid a flask of bourbon tied to a string down the well next to the Missionary Baptist Church for 'emergencies, he said'.
