Maybe so for talks. But when I was an undergrad a Prof was describing Joe Connell’s work on factors controlling barnacle distribution. He asked who had done the work. I got close (McConnell). He said acknowledging who did the work was important because science didn’t fall from the sky. People do it.

Everyone around us is fine. Neighbor’s pin oak lost a huge, healthy branch. It took out his deck and missed the house. But this gigantic oak will have to come down - a gapping wound in the main trunk, in a tree that could decimate his house if it were to fall.

Close to the 19th anniversary of moving up from the basement lab to the new first-floor lab (before and current state photos). Rather than wait a full 2 decades I think I'll tidy up now.

Massachusetts folks: I’ve been seeing a TON of this plant everywhere. This is black-swallowort, which is super invasive as well as poisonous to some animals and butterflies. It also grows super fast and crowds out other plants. Plant experts ask that you uproot and destroy it:

Got to go fishing with 3 of my favorite people. And I caught 8 fish with my new rod, picked out by my good friend Doug Schemske. Here’s a photo near the boat launch as we were heading out just after sunrise. This bridge connects Apalachicola with Eastpoint, FL
