There are some examples that go in the opposite direction. The Matrix series comes to mind. Plenty of brown and beige in those human strongholds. Book of Eli, I am Legend, etc.. I just think these stories are thinly veiled allegory for white fear, fear of the unknown, fear of mortality, etc..

There’s no different cultures, religions or traditions in these stories that aren’t generically “western”. Even in the future!

Every once in a while they’ll throw a minority in for funsies. Sometimes they’ll even make it to the end of the story! But like…this is obviously pandering to a certain audience because that dog don’t hunt in other worldwide markets. Why does western cinema default to white? Is it just statistics?

Something that I think about from time to time is how in most post apocalyptic movies (or even books) the stories we see are always told from the vantage point of white people like they are the only ones who survived. I know there are a lot of y’all but you’re meaning to tell me nobody else made it?
