As to his main plank (Brush your teeth, by law!) I still think from time to time of a speaker we had in second grade, who was just someone's Mom, who told us with vim and vigor that we weren't brushing our teeth long enough. I spent the time wondering how she would know how long I brushed my teeth?

One of those is just wrong, it was in May, not this week. The rest were prepared speeches, some with teleprompter, and at none did he answer questions. He hasn't given interviews or answered questions (in public) since the debate. He will give his first interview to fucking Stephanopoulos on Friday.

I will add, though this may be more controversial, I didn't like people making homophobic jokes about Trump and Putin. That also isn't the problem with Trump. Also when Dems feel completely free to make fat jokes about Trump. And don't want the right to do so taken away from them.

Sometimes it seems like speakers choose the university, and the U can't turn them down, either bc of connections, or because the speaker is too good a get. The former guaranteed to bore everyone to death, the latter just likely to.

Well yeah, but we've all given up on that and diagnosed Trump as both a sociopath and a psychopath. I am worried about Biden's condition, particularly bc he hasn't come out swinging, but some scientisty person in the Atlantic, the Atlantic!, isn't going to tell me anything.

What I have is an enormous failed shoe collection, which is more expensive than pillows. All collected during times when you couldn't return shoes you had worn outside, and your boundless optimism about the new shoes would definitely last until you wore them outside for a while.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. It's ridiculous to think she could become the candidate this time. Let her keep building a record, let her somehow progress. It doesn't make sense that she can never be president bc of one misstep. Biden has had bad gaffes throughout his career.

In California Katie Porter was frustrated and complaining about a different kind of rigging where the Dem Party pretty much told her it officially wasn't her turn yet. She misspoke, but she simply isn't going to be suddenly the candidate for Pres, and after that we can all get over her gaffe.

I got my coolest shoes in the 80s at Payless. I was a grad student, and the shoes' color was "pewter." Yes, they were incredibly cheaply made things that were a piece of flexible plastic attached to a white flat plastic sole, but I got many compliments on them, and danced the night away.

If Biden decides not to run again I'm theoretically for him stepping down, as it would smooth the path to Harris getting the nom, which is the only sane way out of this mess. But that's an incentive for an assassin to make Mike Johnson interim Pres.

Yes, as their can't be any firm line drawn between doomerism/despair and depression. And many look at depression and see egoism. And something about gender is involved, as proud doomerists seem to be more men. We exhort all not to give up hope. Who can we blame if they do?

Definitely agree. One thing about the word doomerism: I don't really like the word but it does some good work in that despair is also a description of depression, which is not egotism, and I hope to god that Catholicism doesn't still consider it a sin. I'm not saying use one or the other.

Interestingly, what Biden is free to do without challenge from the courts by today's announcement is crimes, but not student debt forgiveness as he wanted or implementation of laws. And SCOTUS is now in the business of telling people how to commit crimes and get away with them.
