I guess I'm not totally understanding how the DOJ is responsible? The Tennessee parents filed in federal court, the DOJ just put their weight behind it to support the parents and doctors challenging the laws after it was already in motion.

For a few reasons.
1) Biden could’ve chose to pack the court but didn’t.
2) He could’ve hired more cautious DOJ members who would still be willing to help people who need help from the DOJ but won’t harm marginalized communities for not doing something about the above

These suits have already made it to the appellate courts, it’s family & providers that filed the suit in the first place and there’s bans in effect in all these states that need challenging. What was the better course of action for the feds?
