Your garden is beautiful. And I'm impressed you keep the deer out with this simple line. We have a more substantial fence, and sometimes even that isn't enough to keep them & the bears out.

While I'm talking about plants I've rescued when we bought our house, here is this fabulous clematis that was struggling in a not ideal spot. I moved it out in the sun & 6 years later, it is looking gorgeous.

I think there are natural cycles to the deer population. Of course, human encroachment & lack of predators change things. I've heard of culling but not contraception. I wonder how that will work? We live rural with lots of predators. Nature seems to find a balance. We are very lucky.

After 6 years of babying, my peony is blooming.

When we bought our house, this plant was growing. I suspected it was a peony but wasn't sure. I now have proof.

Patience & perseverance in the garden for the win.

Oh no! They ate my sunflower buds one year. We have our yard fenced but it's not totally deer proof. The gang of mule deer usually go up the mountain in the summer, we just have a couple of white tail that hang out all year. Spring & fall are most challenging really. 🤷‍♀️

You know, I think you're on to something here. They have eaten young shoots of plants in my yard that are supposed to be deer resistant in the past. Like lilacs and nine bark bushes. Just the young, tender stuff. So, yeah, I guess yarrow is fair game too.
