Quick question: What would you think of a journalist who accepted an envelope of money from the subject of a positive story after it was published? Just a nice gratuity for a job well done, no problem?
My point is just this: There is absolutely such a thing as “a this should be illegal, but it isn’t.” But I can’t imagine an argument substantively in favor of allowing government officials to be TIPPED. I mean, you can’t tip *nurses at the hospital* because it might compromise someone’s care!
Whomst among us would not? After all where's the harm, you have already written it so clearly it can't have affected your decision to do so. And there's no way to know that they'll bribe -- I mean, tip you again in the future so obviously you won't. I am clearly brilliant put me on the USSC.
Maybe I can start a GoFundMe for Sotomayor, Kagan, and Brown Jackson thanking them for some recent decision, just to see what the reaction would be on Fox and other right wing outlets?
All people in government work should be considered fiduciaries or trustees. We entrust them to manage in our best interests. No tips or gratuities should mess with that.
