I think that Heartbeat and Horii did a better job with the expansive world, revisiting locations loop in DQ7 which is a much better game. So, overall, I'd still put DQ6 toward the bottom of a series ranking. Maybe I'll try the SFC version one day and love it? I can dream...

However, Carver and Barbara/Ashlynn shone bright in this playthrough. Carver is a sketch of Yangus from DQ8. Usually, when I finish a DQ game I can think back on vignettes that I enjoyed and feel the breadth of the journey and the world. DQ6 is too fractured for that.

I like the uncanniness of the first section of the game with the blurring of the dream world and the real world. Finding the real world counterparts to the dream world characters is a good hook. Some characters really fall flat for me. Terry was wagoned for most of the game.

Finally finished up my replay of Dragon Quest 6. Still have much the same impression as the last time I finished it in 2011. There's far too much to it. Four world maps, big cast, a lot of Zooming between dimensions. The last 15 hours were a real slog trying to get jobs levelled.
