If nothing else, it has caused a huge problem with trust and democratic participation. Why would anyone—teachers, scientists, etc—put in all those extra hours again in future when their work can be thrown out so easily?
This enthusiastic and informed participation is one of the great strengths of our communities of practice in Aotearoa. It dissipates if people lose faith and trust in the process.
Spot on, @maetl.bsky.social. There was a Herald article on 2nd July titled "'Science tsar' leads once-in-a-generation review of NZ science and universities." It is like there is an effort to gaslight the whole research community.
