Movies, Music and Sports (mainly Liverpool FC). I watch a lot of movies, mainly horror. Father of 2 amazing kids, Mental Health advocate
LongLegs gives us the most twisted Nic Cage and is a mix of Silence of The Lambs and Se7en, with Maika Monroe as the FBI agent. A serial killer procedural horror, with uncompromising images and anxious unease throughout. Weirdly, I felt it held back and needed a knockout blow

MaXXXine is a stylish, solid end to the X trilogy, telling its own captivating story. We get a De Palma style grimey 80's LA, gripped by a serial killer and satanic panic, brought to life with a great soundtrack and big performances, while peeking behind the facade of HollywoodβπΎ

A Quiet Place: Day One...When you just wanna hug your cat and have some pizza! Lupita N'yongo shines in this tense fight for survival. It plays as expected, but there's emotional weight to this, the best cat and a cracking final shot!

In a Violent Nature: A stripped down slasher from the POV of the killer, nothing but methodical, sadistic killings. The lack of score makes this a calm yet gory walk in the woods. The yoga kill was one of the best, most brutal and inventive kills. Needed a more imposing killer βπΎ

Glen Powell is brilliantly charming in this fun true story of a fake hitman. For me it only got going once the story introduces Adria Arjona and the plot switches up and becomes a comedy thriller, while remaining an entertaining crowd pleaser

Sasquatch Sunset: Story of a Sasquatch family in America and their lives / struggles. You see all manner of things and the portrayal of their battles has immense poignancy. It's bizarre, gross, yet sensitive all at once. Very much, what did I just watch! Surreal yet moving

Under Paris: A killer shark loose in Paris, a Mayor that doesn't care, a grieving scientist and a cop that just doesn't quit, yep it's dumb shark fun! The last 30 mins convinced me to see the inevitable sequel the rest reminded me to reign in my expectations. Sharkrebleu indeed

A roadtrip / coming of age movie that feels like one, that encapsulates the feeling and emotional of it all. The off keltier vibe works as group of teenagers go for one last hurrah, capturing the youthful zest for life. This film was a whole vibe and I dug it ππΎ

A wonderfully crafted take on Frankenstein, by virtue of a grieving sister. This is a horror story via a modern urban lens, where vengeance is sought due to societal and systemic issues. Tho disjointed in part, there's a solid story, great SFX and a tragic yet terrifying tale

Sting starts and ends well but in between it can't make up its mind. The spider practical effects, the thrills and general spider driven dread is great, just few and far between and it takes a while for the havoc to kick off. A good throwback creature feature, just lacked bite βπΎ

Challengers: Highly stylised, intensely hot film about a tennis love triangle. Zendaya annoyingly toys with both male leads well in this chess match of a film. All's fair in love, tennis and churros. Great soundtrack, exhilarating in parts, corny in others, annoying charactersβπΎ

Babysitter is all kinds of brilliant viewing. A sexist joke goes viral and so begins a journey of self realisation. It's a comedically satirical look and take down of casual misogyny and sexism. The visuals and bold & brazen sequences are superb, in this vivid 'healing' journey!

Chime by Kiyoshi Kurusawa is a haunting look at an apathetic culinary teacher going through an existential crisis. The score is harrowing, scenes of dread are blunt and visceral. A stripped down, unsettling, observational horror that fits lots into its 45min runtime. Go in blind

Femme: Powerful, tragic, tense and gloriously acted. After a homophobic attack a drag artist named Jules is left withdrawn and vulnerable. Revenge and redemption is nuanced around identity and internalised homophobia, developing into one hell of a character study. Gripping watch

Black Hawk Down's lesser intense cousin focusing on an extraction of a serviceman gone wrong and the inefficiencies of the American Military. Russell Crowe is his usual charming, grumpy self and I'm here for it! Decent action flick and gives time to those that give their lives in battle

Infested is a solid spider horror. An infestation of poisonous spiders take over an apartment building and the fight for survival begins. Shades of Attack The Block here, but more intense, claustrophobic and that growing ick you can't shift. A visually stunning creature feature!

It's weird that some things are considered OK to go to solo and others aren't. Nobody calls you a weirdo for going to the gym by yourself.
And it's not as if the cinema is really a social event either - you can't talk or interact with whomever you're with anyway!

Ah Abigail was such a riot. Slow and steady 1st half and a wild and bloody 2nd half. Go in knowing as little as possible (which I managed to somehow do) and prepare yourself for a gory and bloodsoaked time! Melissa Barrera once again ruled but the dance sequence was top drawer ππΎ

Close is a terribly moving and sad story of two boys that are friends and face challenges of their friendship in a new school year. The fragility of innocence against adolescence is so poignant here. So many scenes are given weight through silence and powerful performances. Phenomenal viewing!

I will add that I do think Greta Gerwig should have got an nomination. That movie could have tanked in so many ways but she made something that the whole world pretty much saw. However when have the Oscars ever nominated the right way eg; The Color Purple & Do The Right Thing back in the day π€·πΎ

So the Oscars, reckon they pretty much got the nominations right. Greta Gerwig could have got a nod, at the expense of who though? Probably Scorsese. Lily Gladstone, Cillian Murphy, (Paul Giamatti?) Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Robert Downey Jr to win. Best Film is very tough, they're all actually great
