Tonight's Secret Screaming - In A Violent Nature! The first slasher-movie crosstrainer route, which might partly explain the number of walkouts. Ironically enough, it's a film that's gotta sit for a bit to vibe with it. Like an arthouse Part III of an 80s horror franchise that never was.

Today's movie - A Quiet Place Day One! Throwing the Pig guy down the multi-million studio-franchise route coulda gone disastrously, but Michael Sarnoski knows what he's about - radical kindness and empathy, baby! Lower stakes than you're expecting, but a quiet banger, maybe the best of these!

Curse Of The Ninth was my favourite Inside No 9 in a while, nice n straightforward but really well made and it properly gave me the wiggins in parts. Dying to see how they'll finish it next week, but if every series has at least one instant classic, I think that might be my pick.

I think it has one of the worst, most tossed-off epilogues I've seen in an otherwise good movie of late, but there's so much else to recommend about this. Nobody, least of all me, asked for another Omen movie, but Arkasha Stevenson really made it worth all our whiles.

The First Omen! Ee, if you were waiting for a gnarly, pro-woman nunsploitation movie, two came along in cinemas at almost the same time! Well, one and a bit anyway, this is weakest when it's being a prequel, but it's remarkable that this franchise extender even holds a candle to Immaculate.

Tonight's film: Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes. How often does your monkey think about the Roman Empire? This takes a while to get to the really interesting bits (read: Proximus' whole bag), but by the end, it's as thematically rewarding as the best of this mad, mad franchise.
