NYPD found a way to report their claims of "outside agitators" at Columbia - add arrests from City College, a separate public uni with open campus - count street arrests - no info on "affiliation" meaning. faculty, alumni? - no info on Hamilton Hall arrests, their main claim

It’s because they are lying. Cops are liars and never tell the truth or they would have a piss poor conviction rate that would piss off people who “want someone punished”.

UT is playing the same game with cryptic "unaffiliated" labels. Can mean "alumni who no longer has a valid campus ID," "boyfriend of student who cam to campus when she called him, scared," etc.

The less charitable part of me thinks "did not have an affiliation with one of the institutions" allows for them being affiliated with the the other one instead.
