I have not fully updated my mental model of politics to account for the fact that one of our two parties has decided being out of power is not worth the current level of liberal democracy and actively debating the correct level of illiberalism to impose.

Was just now musing the same; all my elections thinking has to adjust for "actors who disregard faith, trust, norms, civics," etc. It gets very nuts and bolts now about specific situations in the process where bad actors can/will subvert democracy.
