You know what, folks? I’m not actually feeling a sense of despair today. I’m feeling a sense of determination. Maybe one of you knows this about me but I came out of some pretty tough circumstances, and I didn’t escape them and get to where I am today by rolling over and surrendering.

I feel instead that the path before me is clearer, and that the decisions we all make in the coming years will be critical to the success of the American project. I am feeling ready to make a plan for myself, and to join others in making bigger plans.
