I really have lost my former tolerance for "we're doomed/fucked/it's all over/they've won" takes at this point, in that they're the most dangerous attitudes one could possibly have when confronted with a truly existential political threat (which we still DO have levers to address).

For a patriarchal system to continue its existence you have to have enough people willing to work together to maintain it and it weirds them out when somebody who they see as benefiting from all this and as someone who helps them maintain it goes “nah”

Different versions of this happen with homosexuality and with people just not conforming to traditional gender roles in some fashion; the underlying thread is a visceral reaction of “AAAAAAH WE’VE LOST ANOTHER PENIS/UTERUS!” (regardless of the fact that many people in these categories do reproduce).

It seems like transgender people trigger bigots so exquisitely hard in part because of the changes many of them choose to make to their bodies, many of which impact reproduction. For example this might explain much of TERF screeching about “mutilated daughters”. …

The perversion of the desire to reproduce into something used to strong-arm others into it out of reproductive anxiety is a common thread between punishment of gender/sexuality/gender role “deviation” and punishment of the refusal to have children for any reason.

I read your article. I think there’s a simpler motivation for many patriarchal men: “I want to reproduce. I need someone with a uterus (usually smaller than me) to do so. I don’t respect their boundaries/see them as a person. Raping and otherwise controlling them will ensure I make a baby.”
