This pushback against indie games being about depression is so weird.
Firstly, they aren't all about that, or even the bulk of them.
Secondly, that's valid and relatable subject matter that if done well should be explored more.
Why the fuck are people so dick-bent about this?
anti-intellectualism
count how many times "smug" or "pretentious" appear
not that those are Great things to be but if its a primary concern in your life that someone somewhere thinks theyre smarter than you, thats pathological
i genuinely donโt understand that mindset. and if those types of games bother you that much, then go play another game thatโs not about depression, then? there are TONS of them lmao. one of the cool things about video games is that there are so many.
like are they unable to filter information? it's like a compulsion. it's so easy to just not engage. if you can't handle actual art, just keep playing AAA
Partially unrelated but like... I would absolutely play an indie game about complicated mental troubles and the kind of symbolic enemies they face. That would be a welcome change from the shovelware we keep getting from big studios.
Especially if it was coop and involved puzzle elements. ๐
I just tend to assume most of the people whining about indie depression games are the same ones that whine about black people and women in AAA video games
