Henceforth, I'll be referencing Donald Trump, who is a convicted felon, exclusively as "convicted felon Donald Trump."

It's wild that in an election cycle featuring the oldest president in American history and a guy whose brain was partially eaten by a parasite, neither is the dumbest candidate in the race.

Maybe, but it looks like pretty solid writing, is on topic, and trying to get you on the phone, which seems like a group that might recalibrate and try again. Of course, it's impossible to measure the value of security against the immeasurable satisfaction of telling them to piss off.

My philosophy is "always deal with Ingram. But on a more serious note, speaking as a professional on the topic, I'd consider not giving them tips on how you operate irl. That's likely not spam, but a hand-crafted spearphishing lure. Meaning they may still monitor your social media feeds.

I don't know... with a presidential platform like that, you might get some write-in votes.

A point that is a lot of people across the American political spectrum should consider: Rule of law does not exist to serve democracy. Democracy exists to serve rule of law.

Much of technical writing is paying to make sure a catastrophe doesn't happen because of an error in language (and being able to claim due diligence if it does). The hard jobs will remain hard, but the simpler ones make up a large volume of the work and expense.

As a technical writer, I think AI will soon be able to replicate "good enough" on a substantial portion of many of the products tech writers produce. If it allows half of the work to be AI written and get a stamp of approval of an engineer, it will take a lot of salary off of the payroll.

Not that there is even the slightest bit of political will to subsidize artists. Artists are somewhere between "manual horse enseminator" and "member of congress" in terms of how the American public respects various vocations.

Offering meaningful grants and subsidies to human artists would go a long way towards protecting vulnerable human artists while broadening the conceptual corpus that AI training data sets need to produce anything of any value.

It's nuts to look at polls that show that Americans "know" that unemployment, crime, and inflation are all at an all-time high when they are at an all-time low, near an all-time low, and historically pretty close to average, respectively. Scary stuff.

It's part of an extremely concerning trend in the modern digital world where narratives are picked up and consumed at lighting speed and more considered perspectives, if they ever come around, are very slow.

This isn't to say that the US doesn't have problems. The economics are rigged against the regular people and is rapidly regressing as a democracy. This could eventually impact US power... but not yet. The point is, as is often the case, common knowledge is often as useful as common sense.

China, being large, populous, and economically fertile, was always going to be a major economy once decades of instability and Maoism were behind it. It's economic rise (and eventual slowing) is independent of US success or failure.

...a suicide risk. I think people confuse being no longer a unilateral hegemonic power with being in decline. Of course Europe is going to catch up a bit. Those economies were in ruin after WWII, but six decades of reconstruction can do wonders.

Which isn't to say it's "good" (or "bad"), just that if your expectation for the upcoming decades doesn't include the US as a superpower, you're probably going to make some bad bets. The one wild card is the clownshow that is the US political system, but that's not so much "decline" as it is...

"America in decline" is one of those ideas that has seemingly no basis in reality, yet is almost "common knowledge." The US is the richest, most productive, demographically healthy advanced nation in the world, has the 3rd largest population, the 4th largest landmass (+ largest usable landmass)...

Humanity desperately needs more people that understand art and/or philosophy and AI. Too many of the people who understand the latter are literalist pedants. Too many of the former are turned off by the very idea of AI.

I think I could have stuck it out on Twitter for another year, but being forced to open "X" was a constant reminder of the ever-unfolding clustermusk and one day I was grossed out enough to finally jump ship.

Also, the fact that @garnetonwinter.bsky.social sent me a code for this app.
