Nerdy but probably not as nerdy as you. Dad to a cute kid. Husband to a cute wife. Good at a lot of things. Toad enthusiast.
One of the things that I've always appreciated about TECO is that they have a good app and will send text notifications with updates if you subscribe. Handy during hurricane outages, but also handy when the damn ospreys drop branches on the line down the road.

I had that happen recently when getting a root canal performed, turns out the endodontist used an anesthetic mix that includes epinephrine, and my regular dentist doesn't. The shaking passed pretty quickly but makes the anesthetic last longer.

It’s a microhylid frog! It’s most likely an Eastern Narrow-mouthed Toad, Gastrophryne carolinensis! They have a funny roll of skin that they can roll forward to cover their eyes, to protect them while they are eating ants!

Still haven’t seen a Cybertruck in real life, but I did spot a Fisker Ocean today and that felt like spotting a unicorn.

I’ve only seen the back third of the bed of one, we were in a drive through and could see it in a nearby intersection between some other cars. I’m not counting that because I didn’t get to see the whole thing.

Toad Facts reached 400+ followers last week, just slightly behind its Mastodon account which has been around for a year longer.
Today it had its first 100+ like post, an order of magnitude more than any post on Mastodon.
We'll catch up to Twitter eventually.

For anyone who just wants the NOAA link, here you go. Seems to work in a desktop browser, didn't work on mobile browsers for me.

This is awesome!
Just last week I built a Millennium Falcon from the Magical Unicorn 31140 kit using the MOC instructions at rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-145..., which was a lot of fun. Also, it's only $10.
This colorful build of the 75192 kit is fantastic, but probably out of my budget.

I hate that when I see something interesting like this I now have to spend the next few minutes figuring out if it’s genuine or some kind of computer-generated fever dream.

I just noticed that QR Code generation has finally been removed from the Google Charts API and got a sad. It was a reliable way to create a QR code that wasn't hiding someone else's tracking crap in it.
Oh look, here's a different one that looks like it doesn't suck.

Follow a hundred people immediately. You’re not going to see much in Following when you’re only following twelve people. If you don’t know who to folllow, find someone you like (maybe an author?) and follow some of the people they are following.

The main reason I wanted DMs on BlueSky was so I could share posts with @chieflotsahair.bsky.social privately, and I can’t find a way to do that easily and it’s irking me.

I’ve had an issue open with a tech vendor for the past week or so and was finally escalated to a “specialist” who responded with an absolutely idiotic AI-generated list of suggestions that did not at all pertain to my issue and this is what my life is now for the next few years at least. Yay.

Starting to see a lot of companies who ignored the warnings from Google and Yahoo to set up DMARC reaching the “find out” stage. This is both amusing and annoying because hardly anyone understands how it works, even now.
