It's disturbing, but there is, at least, a tradition here of uniting to stop the far right. The left alliance has already called for their third-placed candidates to step down for the second round, to allow the centrists a clear run. Macron has yet to do the same, though.

I'm guessing that means the left managed to get a lot of young people and immigrants to vote, who normally would have stayed at home. In other words, that the most marginalised people are the ones trying to save the Republic that marginalises them.
