I've always been a fan of R Talsorian's fusion system. It's a Skill + Attribute + D10 system that is the basis for most of their games. Fate is a good option as well. Both are relatively easy to pick up on. The advantage of new gamers is that they aren't corrupted by the world's most mediocre ttrpg.

Kentucky was a neutral state. However, there were Kentucky regiments in the Union and there were a vast amount more Kentuckians who served in the Union Army than the confederate army. Unfortunately, the revisionists got to a lot of people. Sam is a good character because he grows.

Hockey can be played on the street using relatively cheap or improvised gear. Nascar was started by people who liked to tinker with standard cars. People take their street cars to the track all the time. Further, by the time they became expensive they were already cemented into the culture.

Beyond the monetary bar to entry, society has to get over its fear of disability before it can even be considered. Some of the dialog in the trailer reflects that fear. The main character isn't that much of a hero. There is definitely an undercurrent of ableism. 2/2
