The government has chosen not to undo this over decades. The government chooses not to undo the injustices.

It's so simple. But the crown doesn't clean up its messes. That's why settlements for breaching te Tiriti are so low. That's why Māori land is underuntilised. That's why there are such disparity in education & health

The crown has been aware of these for a long time. They are not interested. These should be removed immediately

There are many laws and policy that disadvantage Māori. The crown does not care. Most people do not care.

And going out all in reverse plus 11 Pushing the wrong button into the exit to the carpark and setting off the alarm instead of the door release. 12. Driving up the ramp.

5. The big fan slowly turning by the lift 6. Not dropping the key down the gap in the lift doors when I get in 7. The lift 8. What if there is a fire in the lift 9. Not dropping the key down the gap in the lift doors when I get in 10. Not stumbling and falling down the stairs when I walk past

Staying in an apartment in the city. Here are the things giving me anxiety going in 1. Can I find the entrance to the car park 2. Can I reach the proximity card sensor from the car 3. Hold onto the proximity tag so it doesn't disappear down a massive gap 4. Parking the car in a tight space

And now when they give back the fish pond, that used to be beautiful but is now full of their rubbish, people say, well that's good isn't it. No. No it isn't good.

Another poem for Matariki This weekend I made seafood chowder. There's Tupuānuku, Tupuānuku, Waitā. But not Waitī. Because they didn't sell that at Pak'n'Save This weekend the crown returned Wairarapa Moana. Nothing from Waitī there either.

A poem for Matariki Hey, Tawhiriamatea! I understand why you wanted to stay in the dark. Sometimes the light is too much to bear. Sometimes that potential, just too much to realise. Sometimes it's not too much! It's just all too much.

If you're tāngata tiriti celebrating Matariki I'd like you to think about this. For Māori to truly achieve equity in their own country, then we need radical systemic and social shifts. How do you feel about this? Would you support it? Would you advocate for it? Will you help? 5/5

If we cast an equity lens what should violation of laws or tikanga and kawa look like? Should we be promoting diversity in our judiciary or should we be dismantling it and developing systems that fit this South Pacific Nation? I'm not a lawyer or knowledgeable. I'm coming from outside.

We must consider our judicial system. Is an imported judicial system fit for purpose? Is an imported incarceration system fit for purpose? Should we be giving places that lock up our people Māori names? Should there be powhiri in these places?

An example is justice. We all know Māori both men and women are overrepresented in incarceration statistics. And I'm sure there are programs, well intentioned to address this. But if we step back and look at equity, we must consider the place of prisons in our society. 2/n

As I chill over Matariki, I hear good things from tāngata tiriti. But I'm thinking about how we can shift perceptions and understanding, and make this country equitable. What that would look like in practice. How we can shift the systems and belief structures. It's a huge fundamental shift 1/n

If you're confused think of "Māori" as a union of states... Like the EU with Iwi as countries within, and hapū as the regions that make up the countries. The culture varies between hapū and iwi, but they can come together to agree as a collective. 4/4

Matariki public holiday dates are an average of when this time is. (I reckon it would have been better to have it by area like anniversary weekends but small steps - very grateful to Jack Thatcher et al for getting this day over the line! 😍

Top tips. Cut by rolling a plate vertically. It gives soft edges. Score cross hatches in both sides before frying. It allows the dough to expand (otherwise it forms a crust and is denser)

Visited my daughter (22) Her cat only drinks from a running tap. I turned it on for him. He just looked at it. Daughter comes into the kitchen and starts counting 1..2..3... Cat starts drinking. Daughter says "if I get to five, the water is turned off" She is now me.
