I listened to a great piece on NPR this morning about Dr. Frank Kameny, an American astronomer and gay rights activist who was fired from his federal job for his sexuality in the 1950s during The Lavender Scare.

Kameny fought back against the government and helped file lawsuits for federal workers who were wrongly fired, organized one of the first protests in front of the White House, and pressured the APA to change their stance on homosexuality being a mental illness.
