Came back from a doctor appointment this afternoon with news I’d fractured my ankle. So that’s fun. At least all of this was waiting for me in my mailbox. Guess I have a few new options on what to watch for the next little while. Take the good new with the bad, right?

There’s plenty going on in #MaXXXine for those who want to dig in to all its retro ‘80s sleaze-slasher charms. Not all of it works but, for the most part, all of it is at worst interesting. Mia Goth remains outstanding.

Thing about TWISTER I think we forget is just how great it looks. But with Jan De Bont directing, Jack N Green on the camera and Michael Kahn editing, I guess it’s easy to take that for granted. It’s as silly as ever, sure, but it LOOKS fantastic.

Liked Christy Hall’s #Daddio quite a bit. Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn are superb. Some of their conversations ring a little hollow, but overall I was captivated and - best of all - genuinely moved. Good stuff.

Been slowly doing some library cleanup around the apartment. Putting some stuff in clear storage bins (so it’s easy to find stuff) and generally reorganizing the shelves at the same time. It’s exhausting, but at least I’m starting to feel like I’m making a tiny bit of headway.

Respected and admired the craft behind #InAViolentNature more than I fully enjoyed it. Also curious how it will work without a rowdy festival crowd. But there’s still lots to like here. And that mid-movie kill fans are going nuts about? It’s INCREDIBLE.

One of the unsung great things about #SIFF is all the power walking around downtown Seattle and Capital Hill from venue to venue between screenings, and that knowing look of exhaustion that goes from one pass holder to the other as you speed by one another on a tiny sidewalk. Good times. #SIFFTY

Not news I wanted to see exiting SIFF screenings. Roger Corman was a titan. Did he finance some crap? Sure. But he nurtured talent, played with convention and was open to telling every type of story imaginable. One of the best there ever was. One of the best there ever will be.

Goodness is #KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes something special. Glorious visuals. Strong performances. Compelling story that exists in realistically murky shades of grey. Escalating tension. It’s great. A worthy successor to the Andy Serkis “Caesar” trilogy.

TAROT feels like a glossy late ‘90s, early ‘00s major studio horror effort destined to underperform and then be reevaluated in 15-20 years as some unappreciated minor cult genre classic. This is not a recommendation.

Get why people seem to dig #BoyKillsWorld. Great action choreography. Some funny bits. Terrific final battle featuring Yayan Ruhian. But dang this film wore out its welcome with me. I strangely got bored with it all. 🤷‍♀️

Good gawd to #Infested get under my skin. As “angry spiders on a rampage” thrillers go, this terrifically terrifying creature-feature pulls out all the stops. It drove me nuts (and that’s a compliment).
