I am every year more grateful that my elderly parents, for all their foibles, recognize an unhinged conman when they see one. Retiring to SC has, if anything, driven them leftward. I guess the family tendency toward contrarianism has its advantages!

My 98-year-old grandfather who passed earlier this year recognized Trump immediately for who he was and sat out the 2016 election for the first time in his life. He lived in Maryland, so even that was an act of courage when he could have cast a vote and not had to worry about it counting.
