Actually, there is some good news on this. Article 1 Section 3 of the Constitution specifically says that someone who is impeached and removed from office can also be tried criminally.

It says that impeachment doesn't prevent the President from being prosecuted, but that doesn't mean that impeachment allows him to be prosecuted. That's what most scholars assumed, and the court confirmed it yesterday. Impeachment is a separate process.
