I don’t understand people who enable notifications from any news thing, it’s like giving my phone direct access to the glands that squirt anxiety chemicals
The Claudine Gay "plagiarism scandal" shows the power of an outlet like the Times choosing a story they want to hammer over and over via these sort of notifications. Could easily choose to do that for any number of Trump's alarming and unpopular proposals but they just... dont'!
Everyone? It costs $25/month for the privilege!
In the 90s NYT frontpage headlines had agenda setting power, at least that was the claim. But it's just not the case with this stuff now. This whole line of criticism has felt ungrounded and archaic for 20 years.
This is what happened to Fairfax in aus. Ignore the Web, your competitor owns the entire new tab page in Internet Explorer, our company is folding how could we have foreseen this
Yet not 9 hours ago, one of their most prominent columnists (Krugman) skeeted that Very Serious People he talks to are "irrationally complacent about the consequences — economic and political — if Trump wins."
As if the editorial decisions made there don't in any way contribute to this attitude.
