objectively making a print magazine is neat but it's also such a pain in the ass. I miss my old pre-press guy. InDesign ate half of the reviews this cycle. I had to correct 34/120 pages. I am so, so tired.

Haven't seen this one lately: Pay attention to the order of your words. Where a word falls in the sentence can change its impact. Half-assed examples I just made up: - The howling wind filled him with fear. - He filled with fear at the howling wind.

I saw this happen again yesterday and it left a bad taste in my mouth, even though I'm sure the person who made the request meant absolutely no offense to the writers they tagged! and maybe those writers didn't even care, but I have not stopped thinking about it.

we all have reading preferences. that's normal and expected. but if you ask fellow shippers to rec you fics -- knowing they are writers themselves -- while reminding them how picky you are, please consider the message you might inadvertently be sending them about their own work

Fic writer here (and a fellow ex-Michigander hello). When I first encountered AUs, I admit I didn't get the excitement. But they're tremendous fun, even just as a thought experiment. example: Sherlock Holmes but he's a doctor in the 2000s. also we're sticking him in New Jersey
