Until I came across this spot, which had quite a few white Amanita that showed signs of being A. muscaria (typical fire-engine red still visible where the shaded spots were), I thought the same. Though there are white / light colored Amanitas out there, so maybe it's both! ππ

This family of sun-bleached Amanita muscaria was in a beautiful spot - a mossy bank of dirt surrounded by oak trees and backlit by a falling sun ππ’ππ·πΈπ

This beautiful parrot mushroom, Gliophorus psittacinus, was in a great spot to soak up some bright, diffused sunlight, making the colors on it and everything surrounding it the perfect amount of highlighted and vibrant π’ππππ·πΈπ

Another beautiful waxy cap mushroom that I'm positive is Hygrocybe singeri. Outside of the neon yellow, you can see a hint of orange peeking out from the other side of the cap, the blackening marks, and the shiny / slimy stipe π§‘πππ·πΈπ

Hygrocybe singeri comes in a few colors, but this mostly yellow one with just a hint of reddish-orange at the tip of its cap was a fun find for me. The blackening effect on the cap and the slimy stipe make me confident this is H. singeri ππππ·πΈπ

I use them all the time! iNaturalist is my go-to. Doesn't still mean that mushrooms can be hard to ID, though! To get specific with species, sometimes microscopic inspection of the spores is required. Some mushrooms are certainly easier to ID than others, though πππ

This is one of my other favorite mushrooms, Hygrocybe singeri. I used to frequently mistakenly call these Hygrocybe conica, but it turns out that they don't have the viscid stipe that singeri does, and they don't grow quite as commonly in the areas I visit. Mushroom IDs are hard! π§‘πππ·πΈπ

This amazingly beautiful coral fungus is one of my favorite things to come across in the forest. It looks unnatural because of how vibrantly colored it is without being a flower. I believe this is Ramaria araiospora π’β€οΈβ€οΈππ·πΈπ
