Did you know that upon becoming king in 1485, Henry VII had three surviving paternal uncles - Jasper Tudor, Owen Tudor, and David Owen. At his funeral in 1509, only David remained, walking behind the king's coffin holding aloft a steel helmet with a crown of gold. Preorder #SonOfProphecy now.

Sorry about the bad photo, but do you spot the glaring omission in this British Museum caption about the Wars of the Roses? Are there ricardians in the BM?! Thoughts, @nathenamin.bsky.social? ๐Ÿ˜‚

I don't think it's gone the way they expected. Great finds, but the context I've written about before, as have others.

On 1 November 1456, Edmund Tudor, Earl of Richmond, died in Carmarthen Castle. He left behind a pregnant 13-year-old widow, Margaret Beaufort. At the link below is an extract from my upcoming book, โ€˜The Son of Prophecy: The Rise of Henry Tudorโ€™.

On 1 November 1455, Edmund Tudor married Margaret Beaufort at Bletsoe Castle. Edmund was around 25 whilst Margaret was only 12. Through his parents, the sole product of this union, the future Henry VII, was of Welsh, French, Bavarian, Milanese, and English royal blood.

๐Ÿ‘‘ On 30 October 1485, Henry VII is crowned King of England and of France, Lord of Ireland and Prince of Wales in Westminster Abbey, a confirmation of Henry's right to kingship after his victory at Bosworth two months earlier. It heralded the dawn of the Tudor dynasty.

Cheers ๐Ÿป to the renovated Henry Tudor Inn in Shrewsbury, which reopens its doors tonight! Local tradition states that during his march to Bosworth in August 1485, Henry stayed or dined in this very building - as the building dates to 1429, it's more than plausible ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ—.

๐Ÿ“ธ One of the most autumny pictures I've taken - Bran Castle in Transylvania, built in the late 14th century and once a Saxon frontier fortress to counter the expansionist Ottomans. In recent times, it's become regarded as 'Dracula's Castle'. It's not. Vampires don't exist ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ.

It's a shame that Philip the Good and Charles the Bold's ambitions in the mid-1400s to turn their patchwork territories into a unified kingdom of Burgundy didn't come off. A modern day Burgundy would have been some football team, for one.

Henry VII's often assumed to be the first "Beaufort" king, but other kings before him that had Beaufort blood in their veins include James II (1437-1460) and James III (1460-1488) of Scotland ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ, and Edward IV (1461-1483), Edward V (1483) and Richard III (1483-1485) of England ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ

One of the most infuriating historical myths that has taken hold in recent times is that nobody raised the idea that the Princes in the Tower had died during Richard III's reign and that we owe this idea solely to later Tudor Propaganda and Shakespeare. It's just an outright lie

Smartphones have ensured peace, unity or even simple cordiality are harder to achieve than ever before. As we're bombarded every day by digital information, we've become a divided world armed with a portfolio of wrongs inflicted on us by 'the other side', and crave vengeance.

One doesn't leave Warwick without saying hello to Edmund Beaufort. One of the weepers on the tomb of his father-in-law, the great Richard Beauchamp, Edmund would be ruthlessly assassinated in St Albans in 1455, at what is remembered as the first battle of the Wars of the Roses.

I am led to believe, as reviews, feedback and sales suggest, that The House of Beaufort is a good book. But do not, I repeat DO NOT, pay ยฃ298 ($350) for a copy. Widely available elsewhere for the cost of two fancy high street pumpkin spice frappuccinos with whipped cream.

When discussing different schools within Islam, the Persian scholarย Abu Hafs Umar an-Nasafi (1067-1142) mused "Our school is correct with the possibility of error, and another school is in error with the possibility of being correct". I like that principle, when extended widely.

On 20 September 1486, in St Swithun's Priory, Winchester, Elizabeth of York gave birth to a child who, it was hoped, would herald the dawning of a new golden age of peace and prosperity for England. By his father Henry VII, the boy was christened Arthur.
