Faith in EVs as an organic redemption of cars and car culture turns out to be the ultimate expression of faith in technology and capitalism. A lot of people really need to believe that nothing about their lifestyle ever has to change to achieve a more sustainable world, beyond buying a sexy new car.

This "EV fundamentalist" attitude is most popular among people who don't actually spend any time thinking about the problem. It's a meme that people throw around to feel superior, and as such it has attracted people who use it as a prosthesis for the gaping void where a personality should be

Alternatively, it’s viewed as the only politically viable way to decarbonize transportation. It’s one thing to argue that political theory is wrong (it might be!) but I think you go way too far ascribing a hesitation to change lifestyle to people who think this way with no other explanation.
