For his final program as music director of the San Jose Symphony in 1992, George Cleve programmed Haydn’s “Farewell” Symphony, which was nice. After intermission came the “Resurrection” Symphony, which was just weird as hell. Glad to see Jaap figured out how to dodge the freaky overtones.
