I don't normally do nihilism, but the NYT is quite capable of restarting the misogynistic bullshit train in a heartbeat if the nominee changes. I'd rather we all talked to our non-political co-workers and acquaintances than worry about what bad faith actors will do next.

Also: Much of the time, the above dichotomy completely fails to include the black voting population, which is highly organized, educated and mobilized, and the cornerstone of the democratic party win. They tend to be a bit more culturally conservative than the leftist bloc.

Online, this is a recipe for disaster, as factions that agree on a broad range of issues are getting torn apart by a few particularly poignant and intransigent ones. Which sucks, because actual, factual fascism is within a hair's breadth of taking power and turning the US into a managed democracy.

"Leftists" tend younger, and harder to describe, a bit more of a collection of principles, and not as bound to one political party. In US politics this label is applied to both politicians like AOC, as well as Gramsci-reading anarchists. (All correctly perceive Gaza as a moral catastrophe though.)

They support the Ukranians in Ukraine, and have no unified position on Gaza, due to generational divide and realpolitik.

The bit about primaries at the end undercuts your point entirely. Look, I know this may not be a popular thought, but I'd rather centrists than fascists. Especially as a crushed GOP would open up room in our lamentably 2 party structure for a strong, new party on the left.
